The Norse Kukri

An Alternate History Blade by Barrett Knives

What if the legendary kukri had found its way into the hands of a Norse blacksmith over a thousand years ago?

The Norse Kukri is my attempt to answer that question. Inspired by the powerful forward-weighted profile of the Nepalese kukri and the clean, purposeful lines of the Viking seax, this blade imagines an alternate path through history, one where a northern craftsman sought to create a tool that combined the chopping power of a kukri with the rugged practicality and aesthetics of the seax.

Rather than simply blending two famous blades together, every line was chosen with purpose. The spine, edge geometry, handle, and overall silhouette were carefully designed to feel as though they truly belonged in the Viking Age while preserving the characteristics that have made the kukri one of history's most respected working blades.

Forged entirely by hand in Alaska, this is more than a knife, it is a conversation between cultures that never met, brought together through craftsmanship and imagination.

The Norse Kukri is part of my Alternate History series, where I explore what history might have looked like if iconic weapons had evolved in different civilizations. Every piece in this collection is individually handcrafted, making each one unique.

Whether displayed as a centerpiece, carried into the wilderness, or added to a serious blade collection, the Norse Kukri represents the meeting of two remarkable traditions through the eyes of a modern bladesmith.
